Import Contacts into Command

While PieSync gives you more flexibility and makes the import process easier there is not always an option to sync your contacts with Command.

  • Click here to learn how to sync your contacts to Command using PieSync.

The most reliable way to get your contacts in to Command is to use the Command Contact Import Template to import your contacts. This method will require you to add contacts to the Command Contact Import Template spreadsheet, then import that spreadsheet into Command.

To learn how to do this, follow the steps below:

1. Log in to with your Keller Williams login credentials.

2. Click the Contacts, , icon on the left sidebar, to access your contact list.

3. Click Import, at the top right of the page.

4. In the Import Contacts pop-up, access the Command import template by clicking the word DOWNLOAD in blue.

  • The system will only reliably accept the contact list template that has come from Command. If you export from an outside CRM and try to import into Command, you may see some fields pull in correctly, but you might see others pull in incorrectly or you might get an error message.
  • Your spreadsheet must be saved as a .CSV file type for the system to accept the file.
  • There is a 1500 contact limit when importing with the contact list template from Command

5. Using the Command import template, copy/paste or enter any information you have for each contact, into the corresponding fields. To learn how to do this, click here.

Import Field Considerations

Phone numbers can be formatted in multiple ways, all of the following will work: 1234567899, (123) 456-7899, 123.456.7899 and 123-456-7899.

Also, when entering phone numbers into the Command Import Template, you will see five separate columns for primary phone numbers: Primary personal phone, Primary work phone, Primary other phone, Primary home phone, and Primary cell phone.

  • There can only be one primary phone number, no matter the label, so be very purposeful here. Only enter one primary number, then enter the other phone numbers in the "Other" phone number columns.
  • When using Twilio to automatically text contacts through SmartPlans, the system will only use the Primary phone number. If you will be using Twilio, be sure that the primary number you enter is a number that can send and receive text messages.

If you put a note in the "Note" field on the import template, that information will pull into Command during the import but it won't keep any formatting like bold, italics, underline, etc.

When entering custom tags, there is one cell for you to use. Enter each tag separated by a comma and a space, in the cell provided. Also, these custom tags are case sensitive, so ensure that you add the proper capitalization.

The way that an address is entered on the Import Template is how it will be displayed in Command. In the Label column, you can list one of the following (spelling matters, but capitalization does not):

  1. Home
  2. Work
  3. Rental
  4. Vacation
  5. Other

If you use an abbreviation for a state name or the full name, either one will be pulled into Command and sync up with the primary neighborhood of the address.

  • Click here to learn how to add a neighborhood to a contact.

If you are entering a Postal Code that begins with Zero, you must format the cells to display as text fields (Excel and Numbers will take out the first zero otherwise):

6. On the Command "Import Contacts" window, drop the file into the space provided or click to browse for the file that you saved. Click Import Contacts, once you have selected the file.

7. The import can be instant or take up to an hour, depending on the number of contacts you are importing. If you refresh the page, you will see a Command notification, once the import has finished. Click the link in the notification to see a report of the contacts that the system was not able to import, and why.
